Louis Vuitton has teamed up with renowned architect Frank Gehry to create a new line of fragrances known as the les-extraits collection.Drawing inspiration from the original Vuitton perfume bottle designed by Marc Newson, the architect played with form to create a harmonious coexistence between lines and curves. He stretched its initial shape and added a charming oval to the right side of the bottle. He picked up a sheet of aluminum, rolled it into a ball like paper, and placed a flowy, hand-polished cap, emblazoned with the LV seal, on top of the perfume bottle.
“I wanted to look at the project from a sculptural point of view. Bring something different to the fragrance. It’s not a finished geometric form, it’s just movement. Visual movement coupled with ephemeral interest,” says Frank Gehry.
The cap is shaped like a silver flake dancing in the wind, adding an ethereal feel to the bottle. The form of the perfume bottle is a small-scale revival of the Fondation Louis Vuitton structure designed by frank gehry; 12 wide panes made of 3,600 pieces of glass give the design the impression of sails colliding in the wind.
louis vuitton’s les-extraits collection includes five new fragrances from the house’s perfumer, jacques cavallier-belletrud: Dancing Flower, Cosmic Cloud, Rhapsody, Symphony and Stellar Age.”I wanted to take risks where no one went. Reinvent the concept of extrait in a contemporary way. Bring in light, expand matter, make things lighter. I wanted to deconstruct the structure of fragrances. That’s how the les extraits collection was born: five without Fragrances for the top, middle or base notes to bring out the essence of each olfactory family. Mention Jacques Knight Bertrude.
‘I wanted to revisit the main family of fragrances.Give them a twist, expand them, exaggerate certain aspects, and show purity. In revisiting chapters, flowers, chypres and amber, you create movement and rounded, caressing forms every time.I want to imagine a lasting freshness. And not heavy sexy.Says the brand’s perfumer.
