ERW steel pipe is manufactured by low frequency or high frequency resistance “resistance”.They are round tubes welded from steel plates with longitudinal welds. It is used to transport vapor-liquid objects such as oil and natural gas, and can meet various high and low pressure requirements. At present, it occupies a pivotal position in the field of transportation pipelines in the world.
During ERW tube welding, heat is generated when electrical current flows through the contact surfaces of the welded area.It heats both edges of the steel to the point where one edge can form a bond.At the same time, under the combined pressure, the edges of the tube blank are melted and squeezed together.
Typically ERW pipe has a maximum OD of 24” (609mm), for larger sizes the pipe will be fabricated in SAW.
There are many pipes that can be made by the ERW process.Below we list the most common standards in plumbing.
ERW ASTM A53 Grade A and B (and Galvanized) Carbon Steel Pipe ASTM A252 Pile Pipe ASTM A500 Structural Pipe ASTM A134 and ASTM A135 Pipe EN 10219 S275, S355 Pipe
Stainless Steel ERW Pipe/Pipe Standards and SpecificationsASTM A269 Stainless Steel Pipe ASTM A270 Sanitary Pipe ASTM A312 Stainless Steel Pipe ASTM A790 Ferritic/Austenitic/Duplex Stainless Steel Pipe
API ERW Line pipe API 5L B to X70 PSL1 (PSL2 should be in HFW process) API 5CT J55/K55, N80 casing and tubing
Application and use of ERW steel pipe: ERW steel pipe is used to transport gas and liquid objects such as oil and gas, and can meet the requirements of low pressure and high pressure. In recent years, with the development of ERW technology, more and more ERW steel pipes are used in oil and gas fields, automobile industry and other fields.
