Introduction Chemical Composition Physical Properties Mechanical Properties Machining Welding Heat Treatment Applications
ASTM A36 is the most commonly used low carbon and hot rolled steel. With excellent welding properties, it is suitable for grinding, punching, tapping, drilling and machining processes. The yield strength of ASTM A36 is lower than that of cold rolled C1018, so ASTM A36 bends more easily than C1018.Typically, the larger diameters in ASTM A36 are not produced due to the use of C1018 hot rolled circles.
The stock removal rate for ASTM A36 is estimated to be 72%, and the average surface cutting feed for ASTM A36 is 120 ft/min.ASTM A36 steel is not as easy to machine as AISI 1018 steel.
ASTM A36 steel is easily welded using any type of welding method, resulting in high quality welds and joints.
Hello Li Rongbao, thank you for your question. The composition values given are typical values for the added elements in that particular grade of steel. The mentioned percentage of added elements defines this steel as its grade. For example, carbon steel is defined as having up to 1.65wt% manganese, so if there is a higher percentage than that then that particular steel will be defined differently depending on its grade. There is usually a small deviation from the exact percentage of each alloying element found in steel.I hope this helps.Alessandro
Which material in low carbon steel is best for submerged arc welding process can also tell the flux material.
I believe this is due to workload temperature variables. If you want a number, I think you need a specific temperature.
You are ryt Richard.. These also make it flexible for any other country. In my country, an A36 or S275JR will never fail when properly designed
Hi dear professionals good morning I have a question about blank inspection, during physical inspection we measure length, bend, bend, twist, fillet radius etc so I have to know which standard should be followed .Waiting for your valuable response
Application – Cross Arm for Fixing Lights, Material – ASTM A36 (5.0mm Thickness) Welding Process: SMAW, Service Life: 20 Years Generally any concerns and comments, thank you
Can you give me the best recommended material if comparing SS 400 to ASTM A36?
