A Novel Mounting Structure for Thermoplastic Polyolefin Rooftop Photovoltaic Systems


Mibet has developed a new photovoltaic mounting structure made of stainless steel and aluminum that provides a perfect match between TPO fixing brackets and trapezoidal metal roofs.The unit includes a rail, two clamp kits, a support kit, TPO roof mounts and a TPO cover.
Chinese mounting system supplier Mibet has developed a new photovoltaic system mounting structure for photovoltaic systems on flat metal roofs.
The MRac TPO Roof Mounting Structural System can be applied to trapezoidal flat metal roofs with thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) waterproofing membranes.
“The membrane has a lifespan of over 25 years and ensures excellent waterproofing, insulating and fire performance,” a company spokesperson told pv magazine.
The new product is tailor-made for TPO flexible roofs, mainly to solve the problem that the fixing parts cannot be directly installed on the color steel tiles.The components of the system are made of stainless steel and aluminium alloys, providing a perfect match between the TPO fixing bracket and the trapezoidal metal roof.It includes a rail, two clamp kits, a support kit, TPO roof mounting brackets and a TPO cover.
The system can be installed in two different configurations.The first is to lay the system on the TPO waterproofing membrane, and use self-tapping screws to perforate the base and the waterproofing membrane to the roof.
“The self-tapping screws need to lock properly with the colour steel tiles at the bottom of the roof,” the spokesman said.
After peeling off the butyl rubber protective film, the TPO insert can be screwed into the base.M12 flange nuts are used to secure screws and TPO inserts to prevent screw rotation.The connector and square tube can then be placed onto the ProH90 special using self-tapping screws.Photovoltaic panels are fixed with side pressure blocks and middle pressure blocks.
In the second installation method, the system is laid on the TPO waterproofing membrane, and the base body and the waterproofing membrane are pierced and fixed on the roof by self-tapping screws.The self-tapping screws need to be properly locked with the color steel tiles at the bottom of the roof.The rest of the operations are the same as the first installation configuration.
The system has a wind load of 60 meters per second and a snow load of 1.6 kilotons per square meter.It works with frameless or framed solar panels.
With the mounting system, PV modules can be mounted on color steel tile substrates with self-tapping screws, with high-sealing inserts and TPO roofs, Mibet said.This means that the TPO roof mount can be perfectly connected to the roof.
“Such a structure can guarantee the strength and stability of the photovoltaic system and effectively prevent the risk of water seepage from the roof due to installation,” the spokesperson explained.
