Vietnam is the largest exporter among the six ASEAN countries.In 2017, my country’s steel export volume gradually increased to 1 million tons, and reached 2 million tons in 2019.Flat steel exports fell slightly in the first seven months of the year.The US, Canada and Pakistan are the main export destinations for Vietnamese flat steel.Among the six ASEAN countries, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand are the main markets for Vietnamese flat steel.In 2019, Vietnam mainly exported 2 million tons of coated steel, 852,000 tons of welded pipes, 843,000 tons of cold-rolled coils and 767,000 tons of hot-rolled coils to the 6 ASEAN countries.
Indonesia is the group’s second-largest exporter.Flat steel exports from Indonesia increased to 2 million tons in 2018 and 3 million tons in 2019.The country exported 1.8 million tonnes of HRC, 778,000 tonnes of HRC and 390,000 tonnes of CRC in 2019.80-90% of HRC and CRC exports include stainless steel products.Taiwan, Malaysia and China are the target markets for its stainless steel products.The country’s stainless HRC exports fell from 914,000 t in the first seven months of 2019 to 717,000 t in the same period this year.In the first seven months of this year, Indonesia’s stainless CRC exports rose 9% year-on-year to 275,000 tonnes.
Until 2019, Malaysia was not a major exporter of long products.Malaysia’s long product exports increased to 1.9 million tonnes in 2019, of which 70% was wire rod exports.The country’s main markets for wire rod exports are China and the six ASEAN countries, with a total of 1.3 million tons exported in 2019 and nearly 2 million tons in the first seven months of this year.Malaysia’s wire rod exports to China accounted for half of total exports, followed by exports to the Philippines and other ASEAN-6 countries.Malaysia’s bar exports totalled 324,000 tonnes in 2019, rising to 1 million tonnes in the first seven months of the year.Exports to China accounted for more than 80% of total bar exports, followed by exports to Myanmar.
