Grade 404GP™ can be used in place of Grade 304 stainless steel in most applications. The corrosion resistance of Grade 404GP™ is at least as good as Grade 304, and usually better: it is not affected by stress corrosion cracking in hot water and does not sensitize when welded.
Grade 404GP™ is a next-generation ferritic stainless steel manufactured by Japanese premium steel mills using the most advanced next-generation steelmaking technology, ultra-low carbon.
Grade 404GP™ can be processed by all methods used with 304.It’s work hardened similarly to carbon steel, so it doesn’t cause all the familiar hassles to workers using 304.
Grade 404GP™ has a very high chromium content (21%), making it much better than regular ferritic grade 430 in terms of corrosion resistance. So don’t worry that Grade 404GP™ is magnetic – so are all duplex stainless steels such as 2205.
In most applications you can use grade 404GP™ as a general purpose stainless steel instead of the old workhorse grade 304.Grade 404GP™ is easier to cut, fold, bend and weld than 304.This provides a better looking job – cleaner edges and curves, flatter panels, neater construction.
As a ferritic stainless steel, Grade 404GP™ has higher yield strength than 304, similar hardness, and lower tensile strength and tensile elongation. It is much less work hardened – which makes it easier to work with and behaves like carbon steel during manufacturing.
404GP™ costs 20% less than 304.It’s lighter, 3.5% more square meter per kilogram.Better machinability reduces labor, tooling and maintenance costs.
The 404GP™ grade is now available from stock from Austral Wright Metals in coil and sheet thicknesses of 0.55, 0.7, 0.9, 1.2, 1.5 and 2.0 mm.
Finished as No4 and 2B.2B finish on Grade 404GP™ is brighter than 304.Do not use 2B where appearance is important – gloss may vary with width.
Grade 404GP™ is solderable. You can use TIG, MIG, spot welding and seam welding.See the Austral Wright Metals data sheet “Welding Next Generation Ferritic Stainless Steels” for recommendations.

Grade 404GP™ is a new generation of ferritic stainless steel grade produced by Japanese high-quality steel mill JFE Steel Corporation under the brand name 443CT.This grade is new, but the factory has years of experience producing similar high quality grades and you can be sure it won’t let you down.
Like all ferritic stainless steels, Grade 404GP™ should only be used between 0ºC and 400°C and should not be used in pressure vessels or constructions that are not fully certified.

We are looking for a lightweight replacement for SS202/304.The 404GP is ideal, but needs to be at least 25% lighter than the SS304.Is it possible to use this composite/alloy.Ganesh
